Outdoor Learning

Home / Academics / Outdoor Learning

Students in 3rd through 8th grade go on multi-day field trips across the Puget Sound area and to other states. These trips are largely sponsored by our PTO. Our students study geology, biology, ecology, and navigation. They do fun physical activities, build friendships, and grow leadership skills and self-confidence. They even learn how to handle ropes and navigation of a sailing ship. Brighton’s multi-day field trips connect the learning in the classroom with the real world. They also help build a love of learning!

NatureBridge environmental science programs in Olympic National Park offer students the chance to study science in an International Biosphere Reserve.

Students go to Camp Seymour on Puget Sound, where they explore sea life in tanks, learn about snakes, study marine ecosystems, canoe, hike, and enjoy campfire nights with skits and s’mores.

IslandWood is a well-known outdoor learning center on Bainbridge Island. It covers 255 acres and helps kids learn about science, nature, and how to take care of the environment.

7th Grade – Camp Orkila

Students spend five days at Camp Orkila on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands. They learn to be leaders, work as a team, and try fun challenges that build confidence and independence.
